a bit about me:

Hi! I’m Christine Rai and I’m a multidisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, New York.

In 2017 I channeled my anxious energy into a hyper-tense caricature of myself who would later become Krysteen, the focus of my webcomic series Yeah It’s Chill. The short and relatable comics cover a range of topics from race and gender, women’s health, anxiety, and creativity, to my love of bagels and the agony and annoyance of trying on a bunch of outfits only to go out wearing the first one I’d tried.

My work for this project was nominated for a Shorty Award and has been featured in places like Huffpost, Refinery29, Forbes, Buzzfeed, SHAPE, Observer, Bustle, Giphy, Girl’s Night In, Cosmopolitan, and the instagram accounts of Tracee Ellis Ross and Mindy Kaling (It’s also VERY important to note Mindy Kaling once told me I’m funny and talented).

Since 2017 I have created comics and illustrations for places including eBay, Samsung, The Guggenheim Museum, Franzia Wines, FabFitFun, Skillshare, Kenyon College, Not Your Mother's Haircare, MAKERS conference, Marvel, and Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club. In 2021 I worked on the Netflix movie “Look Both Ways” creating comics and artwork featured in the film.

I work in digital illustration, woodworking, fiber arts, mixed media collage, and painting across mediums.
Authentically representing people has become a main tenet of the art I create. Some of my guiding motivations include cultivating and spreading joy, along with increasing people’s access to art, creativity, and cross-cultural dialogues.
